Minutes from meeting number 105

Minutes of the Annual General Meeting of The Manchester Pickwick Club held at Moorside Social Club
on 18th April, 2012.

The 2012 AGM of the Manchester Pickwick Club commenced at 8.04 p.m. Smangle, who volunteered to act as P.O.C was fined for not wearing a club tie and Jingle apologised for not being properly dressed; he explained he was getting ready when he discovered he couldn't fasten his trousers so had to get changed.
Dodson announced that, as usual, the AGM would be a free evening but then went on to castigate members who, hi the past, had put foreign coins hi the fines box. He claimed that suspicions were pointing to Mivins who had just changed a ten pound for coin of the realm and had included a Gibraltar £1 in the change. An embarrassed Mivins quickly changed the Gibraltar coin for an English one.
Dodson then announced that subscriptions were now due and commenced to record payments made by members. Unfortunately he recorded the cash paid by Snodgrass as being a payment by Grummer and had to apologise to Snodgrass when the mistake was discovered.
Smangle said he would have to leave early because he had been offered a lift home so Dodson suggested he didn't repeat Jingle's trick of somersaulting down the stairs.
There was some discussion about the poor quality and quantity of the agendas for the AGM and Snodgrass said he recollected that one member had offered to produce new agendas but he couldn't remember who. Jingle had similar recollections and named Ben Allen as the volunteer but Ben Allen said the minutes naming him were obviously incorrect because Mivins had been absent from the last AGM and the substitute minute writer had made a mistake. However, he said he would be prepared to produce the necessary agendas for next year and asked if there were any changes to be made. During the discussion which followed few of the members had been in the club long enough to remember what the 'Executive Committee' was; Dodson suggested the Executive Committee should comprise Pickwick, the President and the Secretary. Mivins said that in the past he had minuted meetings of the Executive Committee which mainly considered rule changes or applications for membership, but there had been no such meetings for many years.
The Secretary's report detailed attendances during the year and commented on the fact that the date of the meeting had been changed due to a double booking at the Moorside Club; Grummer and Ben Allen had both voiced the disapproval of the club to the necessary date change and the club secretary had apologised for causing the problem. Reference was made to an extract in Louisa May Alcotts book about a fictional Pickwick club which had been passed to the Philadelphia club along with Snodgrass' ode, but nothing further had been received from them. Jingle congratulated the Secretary on his 'delightful' report and Dodson supported Jingle's comments.
The Treasurer presented a report which showed that the club had £1190.99 in the bank and was congratulated for his efforts during the year.
There were no rule amendments and the following members were appointed to the posts indicated for the coming year:-
President Rev Stiggins
Pickwick Jack Hopkins
Vice-Chairman Dr. Slammer
Secretary Peter Magnus
Treasurer Dodson
Asst. Treasurer Mivins
Minute writer Mivins
Deputy Minute Writer Snodgrass

Entertainment Officers Dodson & Tupman
Mace Bearer Grummer
Web Master Peter Magnus
D.C's Tupman & Grummer

The raffle was once again won by Dodson who's pleasure was curtailed when he realised he had once again acquired a Gibraltarian £1 coin. As well as again replacing the coin with an English one, Mivins happily paid £1 into the fines box and said it was worth it just to see the expression on Dodson's face when he found the duff coin.
The National Anthem was sung by all.
The raffle raised £5.00 whilst the fines box contained £3.20.
